A scripture that I love is 1 Nephi 19:7, it says “ For the things which some men esteem to be of great worth, both to the body and soul, others set at naught and trample under their feet. Yea, even the very God of Israel do men trample under their feet; I say, trample under their feet but I would speak in other words‒‒ they set him at naught, and hearken not to the voice of his counsels.”
Now there is something I want to highlight in this excerpt,The things “which some men esteem”, or in other words value, “to be of GREAT worth...others set at naught”, or nothing. Think of that. I think sometimes in life it is just as easy to think of something that is of “worth” to you. Are you valuing that?
I personally think that one of the most valuable things in life is something that you can never get back, your time. Now think about that thing that you find of worth in. Are you spending time on that? I have really been thinking about the question, where do I set God? Do I set him on a counter casually, do I throw him somewhere on the floor or do I place him in a spot that I see everyday that shows Him that I care.
I think in this time of shifting and life shaking (it sometimes seems) that we need to adjust our focus from the things that we cannot control to the things we can control. I think that as we reflect on the things that matter most we will be able to “esteem” those things and put the things that don’t matter “at naught”.
